August2014 Road Trip: Days 12-13- Bar Harbor, Maine

After stopping for cider donuts & hot apple cider,

We drove through from Vermont through New Hampshire to Maine on state highway 2 and really enjoyed the scenic drive filled with covered bridges, lakes, brooks, streams and quaint country stores.

It took much longer than the Interstate but it was worth the extra time.

Our second visit to Bar Harbor Main was over far too soon.  The scenery here is jaw-dropping.  As soon as we arrived here Friday afternoon, we stopped for Maine Lobster & New England Clam Chowder cooked fresh on the water from Trenton Bridge at Lobster Pound.

It was so much meat, both of us together couldn't eat it all.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Regency Resort right on the water.  It's a older hotel that has been here for quite sometime.  The room was small & they messed up our reservations so much that I would not recommend anyone to stay here.  But we were hardly in our room so it was not so bad.  I don't have photos of the room because I was too busy arguing with the hotel staff lol.

Saturday morning we had a delicious Breakfast at our hotel then headed to Acadia National Park for hiking on Cadillac Mountain.

The trail was steep & rocky, a fantastic workout!  The views we were able to see along the way made we all worth while.

We hiked for 3-1/2 hours before heading to lunch. Lunch was each had lobster roll & split a clam chowder from Downtown Lobster Pound.  Hubby liked the Chowder here better.

Later we had fun walking across the sand bar from Bar Harbor to Bar Island.

Bar Harbor is connected to Bar Island via a sand bar that, during low tide, emerges to reveal an easily navigable passageway.  For about an hour and a half on each side of the low tide point, people can walk .8 mile to Bar Island’s high point of 120 feet above sea level.  If you miss the low tide window, your stranded.

We had shopped & had more lobster & chowder for supper downtown in a great local place called The Thirsty Whale.  It was really good.  We headed back to hotel to watch the Saints game & prepare for our next stop .... Burlington VT.
Sunrise in Bar Harbor taken the morning we left

We couldn't resist another picture, the scenery was so pretty

This is a shot of the gardens in front of our resort.
