August2014 Road Trip: Day 5 - Lancaster PA (Amish Country)

We left right after breakfast for our next destination of Lancaster Pennsylvania.  It is really cold this morning, in the 50's.  We have not had to use the a/c in the truck since we left home.  We crossed through Maryland for a short time.  The drive through West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania is totally beautiful, full of Mountains and farmland.  Before we left West Virginia, we stopped to take a photos of some bridges in Barrackville.
I just love covered bridges!

This bridge was in center of the town
We stopped briefly at the Maryland Welcome Center and I snapped this beautiful photo of a river.

We arrived at The Country Inn & Suites in Lancaster around 3pm and were able to check in right way. We love the lobby area with fireplace  Much to our surprise and delight they upgraded us to a Suite! To be quite honest it is far more space than just the two of us need, but we didn't turn down the upgrade anyway.  This is the first of only two hotels were will have to pay for on this entire trip, but we will be using the points from this hotel to pay for our cruise to Europe.

The bedroom is covered with this beautiful quilt

double sink

A livingroom with another TV and desk
Kitchen area with Coffee, fridge & microwave

We had supper at a restaurant called Bird-In-Hand family restaurant.  It offered a selection of local Amish & Dutch favorites made from local produce.  Ron didn't care for their famous sauerkraut & sausage, but he did like their vegetable soup and zucchini.  I loved their corn soup and lima beans.

Shoofly pie, made with brown sugar & molasses, I loved it, Ron liked their apple pie better

After supper we drove through the farms with various animals, the scenery is breathtaking.
