We made a quick stop for some cash (Amish can't do credit cards!) then headed out for a day with the Amish.
Grandma Smucker's Original home |
Too cute to pass up |
We passed this farmer early in the morning and he was still out there when we were out to supper. |
We stopped at various farms selling goods. The first farm we visited sold quilts & various handmade items. I bought 2 small pillows/blankets, a doll & we purchased some canned items. I plan to order a handmade quilt from her once we get back home.
This farm wife was selling pretty flower arrangements.
We bought some huge blackberries.
For lunch we bought smoked chicken & ribs from a farm to eat at our hotel. The meats were from their farm animals & were just removed from the smoker. OMG it was delish!
Next, we took a 4 hour tour that began with a ride on Amish buggy to visit his farm and crops, he had only 5 children but over 100 grand/great-grand children. We tasted fresh lemonade & homemade pretzels from his wife.
We also bought a jug of delicious homemade rootbeer from a farm.
The 2nd part of our tour was on a small bus of 14 people. First, We stopped at this Dairy Farm where we watched as they milked the cows.
Second, we visited a furniture maker. He showed us his wood making & upholstery skills.
Our final stop was the best. We had a question & answer session as we sat in the living room of a farmer's house. He was a super nice guy and an open book. It was very interesting.
We were exhausted. Supper was more yummy Amish food we bought earlier.
