Monday, February 25, 2013 ` The Magellan Straits
Today we spent the whole day very slowly cruising through these beautiful straits. A strait is a waterway that connects to bodies of water. The Magellan Straits connects the Pacific to Atlantic oceans. It is named after the spanish explorer who discovered it. They started out with 5 ships and over 700 people, by the time the exploration ended...only 1 ship and 18 people returned to Spain.
As we cruised on our 300,000+ ton cruiseship, I often wondered what the Spanish thoughts were in their tiny boats of only 50-100 tons. They surely felt both amazement and fear. I was in awe of the magestic snow-capped mountains. Some were so high that you could not see the tops for the clouds....Surely God was having fun while building such a beautiful place.
Sunset is not until 10pm tonight....tomorrow will be our first of two visits to penguin colonies!!!
